The Abortion and Religious Debates Tackled Subtly and Tactfully

I hereby present the second in my new series of articles that result in a dramatic influx of a single, persistent complaint. This time I do it with very little humour… doesn’t that sound fun?

 For starters…

Claim: The world is 6000 year’s old and operates on a wonderful plan.

That’s why I’m sitting here on a Saturday with possible TB and listening to Joe fucking Pesci’s album… Joe Pesci rapping is a part of a deity’s grand plan… Do you want to change your views on there being a grand plan now? If this abomination is part of any grand plan does this really reflect well on anyone?

Let’s see where this grand plan has also got us...

6.5 billion people… Quite a few thousand nuclear weapons… OH WAIT! I see how this works… That’s a great plan. I am officially behind it.

Another wonderful application of religious logic is that any medical procedure that ends or prevents life is against that grand plan… Yet some poor fuck getting run over with his car is part of that plan. It’s a plan that relies on accidents to thin the herd… yet everyone’s praying to avoid those accidents… This… is not… a good plan…

This leaves one logical solution, other than the warming glow of nuclear fallout… famine and pestilence…

While it’s true that famine and pestilence do seem to be the answer, remarkably immune to prayer as they are, it's a bit of a downer. The irony is that the majority of people who tell me the little withered people will be embraced by a loving deity (conversion dependent in some cases) are also the same people who live five minutes away from a McDonalds.

I know this is cynical to suggest… but maybe these folk have all these wonderful backup plans for prayer-failure for a reason? Maybe it’s the only way they can feel that there’s any plus side to being fucked in the arse by the cosmos?

Here’s an interesting question though… If you get into conversation with a fervent believer… ask them a question: Which offends you more – abortion or famine? Don’t accept any of that “both are terrible things” bullshit… make them choose. If they can’t choose between the two… slap them in the face. If they choose the former… slap them in the face. Ask them this question: If you had to choose between the two would you rather prevent an abortion or prevent some starving Ethiopian’s death?

The eternal cult of the unborn being the ultimate innocents is the argument of sentiment. Quit telling me something with an unformed central nervous system is more important than an existing human being starving to death or slaughtered at the whim of a variety of crackpot dictators.

If I ever hear another person rank a cell-collection above any existing human being again I’m going to lose that little bit of faith in humanity that remains. I’m also just going to let out a long, piercing scream.

I’m genuinely tired of people who believe that everything within legal, and illegal, powers is acceptable to prevent an abortion, but will only pay fucking lip-service to any woe that doesn’t set off a little flashing religious light. Maybe if the millions of pounds put into abortion battles around the world, the man hours, the pissing away of government time, was used to try and help existing people…

Maybe we can discuss your ideas when we’re living in a glorious fucking near-utopia and all the living folks have a decent chance of remaining that way past puberty… Right now? This is NOT the main priority… Making sure every famine comes with more mouths to feed is not what we should be doing… Or are you thinking about only banning abortion for the developed world?

 Oh wait… I forgot… *insert some reasoning*

Oh, and if you’re going to be play all that fatalism bullshit… Well… here’s something… If you’re so convinced that everything’s predetermined… That kid was never going to exist… Do I need to explain how fate works?

Now… seeing as a variety of idiots are moving to ban birth control, or at least severely limit its access, it seems it’s not just the Catholics who have no grasp of the problems of a biological imperative in a overpopulated society. Even better is the move to impose this situation upon the undeveloped world. That’s just so smart. Hurrah for the American ban on anything other than abstinence being taught as prevention in Africa.

Listen dumbfucks… Does the fact that the world has 6.5 billion people in it not HINT to you that people like the fucking? Does the existence of the human race not HINT at this fact? The sheer fact that, while living in caves and being mauled by tigers, we still stopped to fuck something with 100% body hair. We’re programmed to fuck things… just like every other animal other than the fucking panda… It’s basic biology… It’s not a beautiful romantic thing… It’s an urge that overtakes one when certain hormones build up.
Wearing a little silver ring and making a promise does not prevent this happening unless said ring is cutting off all blood-flow to your balls. Maybe deeply unimaginative people can carry this off… but nobody’s going to want to shag someone that sanctimonious anyway.

What kind of idiotically childish world do we live in where people believe that their views of “saving it for marriage and for breeding” should be applied to miserable countries with a life-expectancy of about thirty if you’re lucky/unlucky? Oh yeah… and a lot of rape and a lot of AIDS… Still… You sanctimonious suburban whitebread fucks.

Does it really seem like a sane thing to demand that every time one of the billions of people on this planet experience a perfectly normal urge it should result in a child? Do you not see the flaw?

Still… at least you’re protecting unborn innocent life… Good on you… That warm glow right there… doesn’t it feel good?

Oh, just one other thing… On what day was AIDS, ebola, and the like created? Did we get a “and on the eighth day God went ‘You know what… I don’t think there are enough opportunities for human misery already’”?

Oh wait… this is because someone ate an apple isn’t it.

I shall repeat, as I often do:  I don’t care what people believe in… I really don’t… until they start using that as a justification for arrogance, brutality, and a skewed set of priorities that refuse to adapt to a modern climate. Faith can be a nice cozy thing when it doesn’t involve detonating yourself… Religion, however, has been one of the keys, if not the key in holding back progress, oppressing the populace, and filling life with eternal conflict for thousands of years.

I’ll once again chuck the Buddhists a pass, but the rest of you… you’re harming us all. You may do some nice stuff from time to time, but there always seems to be a caveat. Drop your fire and brimstone bullshit. I’m sure your various gods won’t get angry if you actually drop the oppression, the judgment, and the desire to convert the world to your cause. If they exist, they probably don’t require that kind of ego trip. Being able to make wombats kinda puts you above such things.

Think about the consequences of living in the past and trying to forge the future in its image. The past didn’t work so great…

Oh, and to those who believe Armageddon and the rapture will sort all of this out… I hate to break it to you… but a lot of people who died over the centuries worked on the same theory… We’re still here… and we’re still fucked… Quit relying on someone yanking the plug out of the wall as a way of solving serious problems... Try doing it next time your computer goes to hell... Did that do anything constructive?

No.
